Caring - [kair-in] - to have an inclination, liking, fondness, or affection

Here is another one of my 1KW Gallery "a thousand words" where I approach couples or families and ask to take their photos. For those who are new to my blog, the goal: capture an image of the couple, ask them to review the image and then name that image based on the first thing that comes to mind.

For my next couple, they named it "Caring". You can really see the love and affection as they look at each other when I asked them to express how they felt on the day of their wedding. What words comes to mind for you?

The business loans seem to be important for people, which would like to ground their own company. In fact, that is very comfortable to get a consolidation loan.

Happiness - [hap-ee-ness] - good fortune; pleasure; contentment; joy

For my next couple, they named it "happiness" for obvious reasons. I can't help but smile every time I look at this picture. Their laughter was infectious and the funny thing is, all I asked them to do is smile!!! What words comes to mind for you?

Sincere [sin-seer] - free of deceit, hypocrisy, or falseness; earnest, genuine; real and unmixed

I've recently got introduced to Damian a few weeks back which lead to this awesome headshot/portrait session.  I say "headshot/portrait" as he needed a few headshots for his portfolio but once we started shooting the session lead to headshots to a few wardrobe changes to hallyway shot until we were out the door and taking photos outside.

We had an awesome time as when we were not shooting we were wiping away laugh tears while he shared a few "behind the scenes" acting stories from his past play performances. Now he is going for the "big time" and we can't wait to see this young star acting in a few movies in the near future.

Best of luck Damian and thanks for the jokes.
Enjoy...

Okay Okay, I love So You Think You Can Dance. I would like to say it's because I use to DJ so it's a natural fit between music and dance. Or it's because my daughter has been competing in Africa+Caribbean dance for the last 10 years. Or even because I use to break dance in a group when I was 10. But it's just because they are amazing dancers and I can't get enough!!!

Here are some of my favourite images...enjoy.

Heard about this site from my friend. He pointed me here and told me I’d find what I need. He was right! I got all the questions I had, answered. Didn’t even take long to find it. Love the fact that you made it so easy for people like me.

IMG_7498-copy.jpgBefore you read any further, get your mind out of the gutter.

This is a list of 5 things I do to get me in the mood before I conduct a photo session with a couple. Just a few things that work for me. It's about a 5 min read...let me know your thoughts

1. Research other photographers techniques whether through books or online blogs. I love to study great images from photographers I most admire. But not to emulate, instead to challenge myself to shoot a different type of image from what is already out there.

2. Get inside the head of my favourite photographers through online interviews like Ron Dawson's F-Stop Beyond blog. Listening to topics like their background, beliefs and experiences from the photographers I most relate to enables me to channel that same positive energy throughout my photo session.

3. Get inspired through music and movies. I often play inspiring music or my favourite movie scenes leading up to the photo shoot. In fact, I make a point to find out the couples favourite type of songs to make sure I have it playing during the photo session. It's a great for inspiration and motivation.

4. Review notes from the initial consultation. I review the couples overall style; their likes and dislikes; and even topics like how they first met. Knowing this helps generate the look and feel of the photo session that will best resonates with the couple.

5. Finally review my personal photos of the family. In particular, I love, love, love reviewing my engagement photos and my wedding album. With every picture, I can honestly recapture the feeling I had at hat moment in time. Which is my true inspiration and goal for every photo session...the power to invoke a thousand words in every image. I know I know...shameless plug but it's true. That is the mood I'm aiming for...I want the clients to look at their picture and relive that feeling at that exact moment!

So let me know...how do you get in the mood?

Wow, you do so much to prepare... I feel lame because I don't really do much more than maybe look at my notes from the meetings I've had with the couples. I pretty much rely on having a goodtime and just going in blind to see what spontaniously happens.

Maybe I should try prepping a bit more.

this shot has a sweet fashion edge to it, I dig it. The part I would add that to these great suggestions is to have a freakin blast while shooting, I get the best images when I am having a good time, and I can engage my couples and work with them so they are having fun as well!

Awesome image Carl, its totally cool that you focus so much time ahead of time getting yourself ready for the shoot. I should probably start spending some more time preparing myself mentally before running off to shoot

I'm currently working on my gallery called "a thousand words". The concept? I approach strangers (mostly couples) and ask if I can take a few photos of them. My goal is to capture an image of the couple, review that image and ask what is the first word that comes to mind.

I'm using a technique that was taught from an amazing photographer named Jerry Ghionis. Where you combine classical portrait poses with a photojournalistic flare. For instance, I may ask a couple give each other a hug. But I'll proceed to ask personal questions or unique requests like ask "How did you propose?" Or I'll ask one of them to whisper in the other's ear "What was going through their mind when they first laid eyes on their significant other" At that very moment, I capture that shot. It's always a great experience for me and the couple. Plus they get to name the image which I send back to them.

For the couple Andrew+Novie below, they named their images "WARMTH"

[warmth] - the quality of being intimate and attached
Andrew+Novie-Warmth-I.jpg
Enjoy.
